Saturday Morning Cafe Club

LoveBread has joined forces with youth organisation #iwill, to open an inspirational pay-as-you-feel  cafe run by young people.
The café will close for the summer on 30th June and reopen in September 2018.

The Saturday Morning Café Club at the LoveBread community bakery, No7 Martin St, Brighouse is open every Saturday morning between 10am and 12pm.

The café is run by a team of 15 young volunteers, aged between 10 and 20, who bake a range of sweet and savoury snacks, serve great tea and coffee and provide a friendly environment for local people and groups to meet. The café is pay-as-you-feel with every penny of the donations going to a charity chosen by the team.

#iwill work with young people across the UK as young as 10, to do inspirational things in their communities to help others.

Over 700 organisations, including LoveBread have pledged #iwill, to encourage young people across the UK to take part in social action.

Working with business, education and voluntary sector partners, the #iwill campaign aims to ensure that all young people can access social action opportunities, whatever their background, as involvement in social action strengthens communities and enhances the skills of young participants.

Charlotte Hill, CEO of Step Up To Serve, the charity which coordinates the #iwill campaign says: “We are delighted that LoveBread has pledged to support our work.’

We are very grateful to Community Foundation for Calderdale for funding this project.

Learn to Bake SourDough Breads

Sourdough Basics

We’re offering a new workshop in the New Year. On this workshop, we aim to introduce you to using sourdough (natural leaven) in breadmaking.

You will begin your own starter, refresh and take away some of ours, create a sourdough pizza for lunch. Recipes, kneading, shaping and baking also covered in detail. You will take home recipes, dough and bread.

Due to the nature of sourdough bread, we will work at all the different stages but will not bake a loaf from start to finish as this is a lengthy process!

Cost: £75 (includes lunch) Bookable online, Sunday 19 February (Fully Booked) or Sunday 19 March

Volunteering Opportunity

One of the best and most important elements of LoveBread is our fabulous team of volunteers. From early starts in the bakery, to delivering the freshly bread to our outlets, we have a great team.

We are super busy at the moment, and have some new volunteering opportunities available.

We are looking for people who can volunteer regularly, one or more mornings each week. Starting between 9am and 9.30am you would arrive after the baking is done, but in time to help with the increasing preparation workload for the next bake shift. This typically involves weighing out the bread mixes, assisting with the shaping of the sourdough breads, as well as other general kitchen duties.

If you, or someone you know might be interested in joining in with our community based team, please get in touch for more information. You can contact us via email on baker@lovebread.org.uk or via our Facebook page.
