Advanced Sourdough

Advanced Sourdough – In collaboration with Crow’s Rest Bakehouse: a full day (7h) workshop proven to help you develop the skill to master a great variety of sourdough breads. Suitable for home bakers with some knowledge and experience of sourdough.

  • Country Sourdough – Using white & wholemeal wheat together with Rye flours, with little tweaks to this recipe you can make an infinite variety of breads, from seeded to olive loaves.
  • Baguette – yes, you can make crusty baguettes in your domestic oven!
  • Rye bread – the nordic style, 100% rye bread, perfect for open sandwiches.
  • Rolls – no fuss sourdough bread that will get you baking with confidence in no time. Perfect for sandwiches or dips.

Real Bread: Basics

This is a great introduction to the basics of breadmaking. Learn about selecting ingredients and our sponge and dough method as well as hands-on kneading, shaping and baking. Always a popular workshop, we aim to inspire and improve your breadmaking skills in a friendly and supportive setting.

Feel confident to try again at home after making our overnight white and brown loaves and rolls plus a delicious Italian focaccia.

Light lunch and refreshments provided.

Breadmaking in a Day (limited places)
Wednesday 30th January
10am – 2pm

Our popular Breadmaking in a Day class comprises two contrasting bread recipes – one savoury and one sweet – and you will spend the day baking both from scratch. Breads will vary depending on the season.

We run this as a small and friendly weekday class – with time for questions & discussion as well as a really hands-on experience. Leave with a bag of great bread and the confidence to carry on baking.

Pork Pies & Piccalilli

Join Jacqui of Penistone Pies & Puddings for this introduction to one of the all time British classics – the pork pie!

Not only will she show you how to make the unique hot water crust pastry but she will also instruct you how to create a meat filling fit for a king. As well as catering for traditional pork pie lovers, Jacqui will reveal how to customise your pies to introduce different cuts, types of meat and additional ingredients to give them your own distinctive flavor.  Jacqui will also demonstrate how to produce your own gourmet crunchy farmhouse piccalilli to serve as the perfect accompaniment to this classic pie. On completion of the course you will take away your own two pork pies created by you to share with friends and family and a jar of Jacqui’s fabulous crunchy pork pie piccalilli.

Honey, I made some bread!

In this breadmaking workshop we will make dough from scratch to create an apple crumble Stromboli and pistachio & honey buns, then make & bake honey & oats soda bread. The class includes a light lunch with time to go through the course notes and any questions you might have.

Workshop run in collaboration with the Crow’s Rest Bakehouse, Wakefield

Suitable for beginners upwards.
