Real Bread: Basics

This is a great introduction to the basics of breadmaking. Learn about selecting ingredients and our sponge and dough method as well as hands-on kneading, shaping and baking. Always a popular workshop, we aim to inspire and improve your breadmaking skills in a friendly and supportive setting.

Feel confident to try again at home after making our overnight white and brown loaves and rolls plus a delicious Italian focaccia.

 Brighouse Baker Boys 3
Mon 1st Oct for  5 weeks; 6pm – 8pm

Through funding from Tesco ’Bags of Help’ scheme, LoveBread are pleased to be running our 3rd round of Brighouse Baker Boys.

Taking place on Monday evenings in our community kitchen in Martin Street, our male bakers and volunteers will run free workshops for men (and boys aged 11 and over) to learn how to bake different breads over 5 sessions. It is open to individuals, sons, fathers and grandfathers, friends and colleagues.
The common link will be a social event for boys and men to meet with a real purpose. Brighouse Baker Boys will provide time and space for boys and men to develop bread making skills and improve health and wellbeing.

The course will run for five consecutive weeks

Monday 1st Oct 6pm – 8pm until Mon 29th Oct.

There is a £10 deposit required, refunded at the successful completion and full attendance of the course.

Real Bread: Fruit, Seeds and Nuts

One of our most frequently asked question is: What if I want to add a filling or flavour to my bread?

So if you want to make your own great bread using a range of fillings and flavours, using slow fermentation methods and traditional techniques, we’ve designed this day just for you.

We will show you how to work with filled doughs, shape different styles and work with a combination of great ingredients. Suitable for beginners upwards.

Breadmaking in a Day
Wednesday 17th October 10am – 2pm
Friday 30th November     10am – 2pm

Our popular Breadmaking in a Day class comprises two contrasting bread recipes – one savoury and one sweet – and you will spend the day baking both from scratch. Breads will vary depending on the season.

We run this as a small and friendly weekday class – with time for questions & discussion as well as a really hands-on experience. Leave with a bag of great bread and the confidence to carry on baking.

All ingredients and refreshments provided, including a light lunch.

Flour Power! Family breadmaking for children with SEND
Fri 19th Oct
4pm – 6pm

Flour Power! is for disabled young people aged 8 to 18 years who, through the appropriate delivery of breadmaking sessions, will have the opportunity to participate in our baking classes. We will make and bake 2 fantastic breads to take away.

We ask that a family member accompanies their child on their first session – although families are always welcome to stay and join in. We will then work together to review any particular changes or adaptations for any future events.

Please note that LoveBread at No7 Martin St does not have wheelchair access. However, we will be running fully accessible classes at Ravenscliffe School during the Autumn: dates to be confirmed.

Real Bread: Introduction to Sourdough
Sun 21st October 10am – 2pm

Sourdough bread gives you a delicious crust & crumb with benefits for health. We’re delighted to offer this introductory workshop where we will guide you through sourdough breadmaking.

We know people have such varied experiences with sourdough and lots of questions, so on this day you will cover:

– making your own sourdough starter to take away
– flours, fillings and feeding a starter
– mixing, kneading, shaping and baking sourdough loaves
– routines, timings, tips and tricks to fit sourdough into your life

Included in the course is a proving basket and scraper.

Please note that due to the nature of sourdough baking, we will cover each element separately.

Brighouse Spring Market

We will be at the Brighouse Spring Market on 29th and 30th April.
On Saturday, find us on Commercial St with a stall full of warm bread, including sourdoughs and flavoured focaccias.
On Sunday the Tour de Yorkshire whizzes through Brighouse. Come to the stall to buy flour and breadmaking equipment, plus the chance to enter our competition linked to a very special bike. We will also be sharing a special discount code for our breadmaking classes.

First Friday Drop In – Starts 7 October

Why not join us on the first Friday morning of every month where our community kitchen will be open for breadmaking!

9.30am – 12pm

Recipes, ingredients, equipment and ovens will be available for you to use – bring your enthusiasm and have a go.

These sessions are hosted by one of our volunteers – these are not taught workshops but we will be there for advice and guidance.
